Six Pack Abs A Myth?

You see it on television, magazines, and posters everywhere. Those perfectly symmetrical six pack abs. Can this actually be attainable?

The answer is, obviously, YES! You can have six packs and they can be a part of your reality. However, you must realize that getting six packs is no walk in the park. It takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and, of course, eating right.

Although many of those models are genetically gifted to having six packs, many have to go through intense diets to get the way they look. It's their job! I have a friend that tried being a model and couldn't do it because he didn't have the will power to diet right.

I'm not discouraging attempting to get six packs like those shown on advertisements. One must realize, however, that having six packs means having very low body fat levels. Around 10% is the level that your six packs will begin showing up. Getting to this level will probably be the very last process of weight loss. So in any weight loss program expect to get the abs last, not first. Don't be discouraged.

Working out to get abs is not as important as diet. Bodybuilders often state that six packs aren't made in the gym but are made in the kitchen. This is absolutely true. You can't lose weight by working out and eating whatever you want. Cutting calories is essential in any goal of having muscular definition in the abdominal area.

As for abdominal specific exercises. I feel that people already know the fact that abs exercises won't make your abs show up but let me mention it in case you don't know. Abdominal exercises do build your abs. However, having muscles and having muscles that show is totally different. Everyone knows the big guy that feels like he's so buff since he weighs around 200 pounds. However, to everyone else he is just fat. Sure he can bench press twice his weight but his body fat levels are so high that his muscle is hidden.

Another thing about abs is that they vary for different people. Some people may have symmetrical abs and others may have different types. Take a look at various bodybuilders during contests and you'll notice how every bodybuilder has different looking abs. Strange but true. Don't expect your abs to look like your favorite celebrity or model. Having goals like that is not smart. Rather, set goals like "having abs". That's a lot easier to attain than having "Brad Pitt's abs in 'Fight Club'".

Get Ripped Six Pack Abs With Interval Training

Getting ripped six pack abs is more than just doing crunches and abs exercises. Way more. In fact I always say that the most important aspect of having six pack abs is by doing cardio exercises and what better way to do them than with interval training.

Doing cardio with intervals means that you don't perform the exercise with the same intensity at all times. Instead work at first with a warm up intensity to then vary between your max and your normal effort.

If you do this type of exercise at least 3 days a week, you'll see how your entire body fat will reduce, and you'll sport some sexy ripped six pack abs. Here's an example of interval training for ripped six pack abs:

1. Let's say you choose running as your cardio exercise of choice.

2. Jog for about 5 minutes at a warm up intensity to avoid injury.

3. After those 5 minutes, perform 40 seconds of high intensity running (run as fast as you can) You'll get tired very fast.

4. After those 40 seconds reduce your intensity to a normal level (something not too fast, not too slow) for a whole minute.

5. Repeat this for 10 times to start.

There's no way to get faster results. If you are up for it, you can even train this way for all week, but it would be a good idea to first let your body get used to this system. Remember that you can choose any cardio exercise you prefer like:

-Swimming
-Jumping rope
-Running in place
-Cycling
-etc, etc, etc.

After some week you'll see great results, however don't obsess with dates and fast weight loss, this is a fast way to do it, but all great results need time and determination. Good luck!

Your Abs Workout Is The Key To Your Six Pack

Your abs workout is one half of a two part "attack plan" for six pack abs. An abs workout coupled with an abs diet is what gives you super defined flat abs. The diet's main function is to reduce the amount of bodyfat you carry so that your ab muscles can poke through and become visible. Your abs workout is designed to strengthen your ab muscles and increase their size and separation so you get the ripped "six pack of beer" look. If you don't want rippling abs, keep up the abs diet but lower the intensity of your abs workout.

To get the best definition possible, the best separation of individual muscle groups (note: your rectus abdominis is actually one single muscle, but has several mini-muscle groups within it. That's what forms your six pack. They'll all part of the same muscle, but they are separated by small areas of tendons and ligaments) and the best overall look, you must follow 3 key principles.

1. Increase strength. Improving overall core strength is a very important part of your abs workout. Having a stable and powerful mid-section will give you the base that you need to perform more advanced exercises to target the other two key principles.

To develop your strength, perform exercises more quickly but still with as much control as you can. If you're already quite strong, you can use weights to boost the difficulty of the exercises. For example, if you're doing sit ups, put a few potatoes in a pillow case and hold it to your chest while you do each repetition. If you're doing vertical leg crunches, strap some ankle weights on and see if you feel the difference.

2. Increase size. If your abs workout increases the strength of your abs, you will see an increase in size too. Bigger abs means they're more likely to show through your body fat, and once you get the separation down, they'll really pop out. To gain size, go for slow reps of the difficult exercises. This is a traditional bodybuilding technique, using heavy weights and controlled repetitions to engage as many muscle fibers as possible for each exercise.

As mentioned above, you can use weights to increase the difficulty, but there are also many natural bodyweight exercises which you can do without weights.

3. Increase separation. Definition comes through two factors in your abs workout - low bodyfat and well separated ab muscles. To ensure you get proper separation and maximum definition, do plenty of cardio so that your bodyfat is low and your skin is tight over your ab muscles, and then make sure you target the abs from many angles within your abs workout. Do lots of different types of abs exercise, and do larger numbers of repetitions to improve overall tone and shape.

A basic abs workout should be planned around your daily routine, and should aim to attack each of the three principles above throughout the week. Go for one of the principles each day to keep yourself interested and motivated, and to keep your body reacting to the new ab exercises you're throwing at it.

The Truth About Six Pack Abs

The majority of abs and weight loss books are such a waste of time. They come with the same information as other hundred books, it is really hard to find something that is worth spending money. I only read one of those books when someone I trust recommends it, and even there, I read them skeptically.

A couple of months ago, a friend invited me to read The Truth About Six Pack Abs, and I let it rest on my hard drive for two weeks. The I finally decided to give it a try, and I can't wait to share with you my conclusions. It's the best abs books I've read in a long time, probably the best of all times!

This really surprised me. After reading the sales page, I though it was "another abs book" with a long sales page and that (I don't really like long sales letters). But then I found out that he kept emphasizing what I consider important points, such as the myths, and the importance of the whole. That's what drew me to finally buy it after the recommendation.

This book is 100% useful information on how to train your abs. Besides the usual exercises, author Mike Geary also discusses important aspects of getting the six pack abs: diet and meal plans, along with strength training (which doesn't mean weight lifting)

Mike is a professional personal training with years of experience, that's why you get quality info. I also like that he stays in touch with customers, he even gives you his email and has newsletter with extra tips. To me that's very valuable because you know he's not in for a quick buck, like most of other book's authors.

Back to the book, it starts by giving us a our through our abs section. It is a great starting point to get to know the muscles involved in the exercises and how they all work together. Very basic, yet very useful.

Then he lists the best exercises for the abs, over 20 of 20 stomach exercises designed to give you that six pack of your dreams, all with color pictures and with its steps.

My favorite part of the book was where he listed the best exercises for your abs (over 20 of them) AND he provided clear, color pictures so you can actually see how to do them. These are exercises that you can do both in your gym or at home, and he also explores the best ways to work your abs with a fitness ball.

I recommend this book because it is the perfect way to complement your abs training with 10% reliable professional training info. It practically answers all your questions in a safe way! While I like to keep you up to date with routines and advice, Mike's book provides a perfectly structured and effective guide with all angles covered.

If you're a woman, you too can benefit form this book. As Mike says in the book, all can benefit by strengthening the abs, and this doesn't mean that you'll get big muscles in the stomach. Strength training is not the same as weigh lifting, and you can use the routines in the book to keep your stomach toned and firm.
