Six-Pack Abs For Everyone?

In this day and age, six-pack abs can be had by almost anyone who isn't afraid to put in a little hard work and make good decisions. Research has uncovered the exact science behind muscular definition and it's not Top Secret -- anyone can obtain this information. If you can make the commitment to eat right, train with weights, and do some cardiovascular exercise you're already closer to having a six-pack than you think. This article will give you the knowledge you need to start toward your goal of being the proud owner of a stunning midsection.

It's no coincidence that I'm starting with diet. Yes, some people seem to be able eat whatever they want and stay lean but, if you're like the rest of us, you'd better listen up. When it comes to seeing that six-pack, diet is where most people fail. You're abdominal muscles can be made of cobblestones but no one is going to see them if they're hidden beneath gobs of fat. Eat clean. Your body will have a much easier time dealing with broccoli or salmon than it will with a fluorescent hunk of chemically flavored garbage that came with a toy. Eating clean food in the right amounts at the right time allows you to show off all of the hard work you're going to be putting in.

Training with weights builds muscle. Muscle burns calories. The more muscle you have, the more calories you will burn. It's that simple, folks. Better yet, you burn calories at a higher rate long after your weight training session is over. Makes you want to pump iron a few times a week, doesn't it? Now, you're getting it. Let's add another element and get to our goal even faster.

Boxers and dancers are usually pretty lean. Do you know what they do a lot of? They do a lot of cardio. You should do some, too. Jump rope, jog, surf, swim, jazzercise -- do whatever you wish but keep moving! Cardiovascular activities stoke the fire of your metabolism even more. It's only a matter of time before your abs pop out. At this point, you're a calorie incinerator!

Now, you see that stunning abs can be obtained by anyone with enough will to earn them. Drink lots of water and get plenty of sleep and you're odds just got even better. Stay focused, be consistent, and be patient and it will happen if you let it. You now have the tools to earn yourself a six-pack so stop wishing and go get it!

Adequate Abs

After hearing the same questions time after time I feel it is only right to clear up the whole ab issue. I am amazed how often people question me with a bewildered look on their face curious about how exactly to get that coveted "six pack." Here’s where the most important point comes in: it is peoples’ misconceptions about training and dieting that lead them astray. Most often it is not a lack of effort that results in a feeling of abdominal inadequacy. On the contrary, people rave about the number of crunches they do often numbering as high as several hundred several times per week.

Don’t get me wrong, it takes quite a lot of willpower to do that many crunches in one sitting, but that doesn’t mean that it’s what you need. Through no mistake of their own, and most often in taking advice from friends, people feel that in order to get the most defined stomach they have to do countless crunches or sit-ups in order to both burn the existing fat in that region and also build muscle.

This skewered perception about the types of exercises to do is often coupled with a misconception about frequency of training. Along with the multiple repetitions that people feel the need to perform there is also a sense that in order to tone the abs most effectively you must train them many times per week. This is simply not true. To have great abs there are two requirements.

The first is good muscular development of the rectus abdominis, (the muscles running from the lower belly to the bottom of the chest, aka the “six pack”) and the second is a low body fat percentage. In order to achieve the first requirement you must realize once and for all that the abdominal muscles are just like every other muscle in the body insofar as they need similar training to elicit a particular response. If you want to increase muscles definition it is a good idea to increase muscle size. (As long as you don’t add fat size as well) This is done by challenging the muscles with a weight and rep range that allows for adequate tension to be held on the muscle without sacrificing form. Ideally you should use a weight that is challenging for 8-12 reps.

There are literally dozens of effective ab exercises and only a few need to be completed during each workout. Despite the multitude of exercises, (which I will discuss specifically later) it recommended that you limit the frequency and the volume of your ab training. To be precise, abs need only be trained once per week, with three to five different exercises per workout. Going above and beyond this is possible but not recommended as it can result in over training.

Remember the abs are playing a part in many other exercises that you do for other muscle groups and only need limited direct work. The second requirement to have awesome abs is to lower the amount of fat in your body. This can be done with cardiovascular training done 3-5 times per week for one half hour. Ideally the aerobic training should be done with the heart beating at fifty to sixty percent of your max heart rate. In doing it this way you are staying in the “fat burning zone” and are limiting the amount of precious muscle you burn off and maximizing the amount of excess fat you shed. This is the best way to decrease body fat. This is how you allow your body to burn off the excess calories that often result in fat storage in the abdominal region. If you couple this with hard resistance isolation of the abdominal region and healthy eating you’ll end up with a cut midsection full of muscle!

Flatten Your Abs and Make Them Hard, Too!

No doubt, you have probably heard of Pilates exercises. You probably wanted to try them at one point but have felt hesitant. You wonder if it is worth your time and money or if it is just another one of those fads. Well, to se that it really works, here are some free Pilate exercises for you to try.

Before you begin your exercises, it would be beneficial for you to take a few minutes and learn the C curve. Learning this will help you to get the most of your exercises as well as make them even easier to do.

The way you get yourself into the C curve position is by first sitting with your feet flat on the floor and have your knees bent. Be sure that you keep your shoulders and head up. Then, place your hands behind your knees and exhale. When you exhale, pull your stomach inward. When you do this, you’ll feel your head and shoulders go down to the point you are looking at your stomach. Your back will form a deep C-shaped curve, and you’ll have mastered this position. Now, you are ready to do these exercises.

Roll Ups

Once you get the hang of this exercise, it not only becomes easier to do: but, it also flattens your abs tremendously. Not to mention, your confidence will be boosted, and you’ll possess those rock hard abs you always wanted.

1. Lie flat on your back with your legs out straight. It would be beneficial for you to have a mat when doing this exercise as it will provide more comfort.

2. Raise your arms up toward the ceiling.

3. When you breathe in stretch your arms all the way up toward the ceiling.

4. When you breathe out, allow your body to roll up to the point that your spine is coming off the mat and your arms are over your legs.

5. Keep your legs straight on the mat and repeat this five times.

Is that easy or what? Now, it is time to try something else.

Leg Circles

This exercise will create the abs you want. With continued use, you’ll notice how quickly it really works.

1. Lie flat on a mat and keep your arms by your sides.

2. Lift up one of your legs slowly toward the ceiling at about a forty-five degree angle and turn your foot in slightly.

3. When exhaling, draw a full circle in the air with your foot. Don’t allow your foot to touch the floor though you want to come pretty close.

4. Do this five times and then switch.

How do you feel now?

Leg Stretch

This exercises pretty awesome as it is not only a good stretcher, it will most certainly do the trick for getting the abs you want. Here is how you do it.

1. Lie on the mat with your legs straight out. But this time, put your hands behind your head.

2. AS you breathe in, rays up your neck and head. While you raise your neck and head up, raise your legs in a forty-five degree angle. Make sure your neck and your head stay up.

3. Exhale slowly and return to the lying position.

4. Repeat this exercise ten times breathing slowly.

These may sound complicated. However, after you get the hang of it, it becomes a piece of cake. Do it long enough, not only will you feel good about yourself, you’ll flatten your abs and make them rock hard.
